Rural Development Trust is a voluntary organization in Thiruporur which is rendering services since 1992. The organization has been making transformations in the field of education, health and economic development among marginalized and disadvantaged sections in the society. The organization was born in the village and without any intervals services are offered to the poor and needy. The rganization has 80 G and FCRA.
The organization showed enthusiasm to jump into the relief work in Thiruporur during the recent flood. All the people who were caught in the flood were rescued and asked to stay in community halls, churches and government schools. Food packets were given immediately when people were in the camps. People were also given all the relief materials and provision items. People were also given tarpaulin, bed sheets, mats and safe drinking water.
27 volunteers came forward selflessly and worked day and night for the welfare of flood affected victims. RDT has given following assistances to the affected families

RDT has found that most of the working villages of RDT have not been included in the list of the villages where rehabilitation is not undertaken by the Government and private sectors. On 10th February - 2016 School uniform were distributed to 3 flood affected Irula children at Thandalam village Mr.T.K.Elumalai Managing Trust of the RDT has distributed the uniforms to flood affected children in the village.
Thursday Feb 09, 2016 - Oragadam Village (Uniform Distribution for School Children)On 9th February-2016 School uniform were distributed to 19 flood affected Irula Tribal children in Oragadam village at Anganwadicentre of the village, Mrs.Muniyammal, ward councilor of the village has distributed the uniforms to these children.

The school headmaster Mrs. Kalyanasundharavalli has distributed the school uniforms to these children.

Who study at Venbedu Government primary School the uniforms were distributed by the school headmistress Mrs. Tamilselvi.
Thursday Dec 31, 2015 (Distribution of Relief materials )Rural Development Trust has been consistently supporting the flood affected families. The most affected villages namely Karumbakkam, Karuneelam, Idayankuppam and Althur were visited and asked of their present status after the flood. It came to the notice that all the families still need the support. All the families in these villages were visited along with 20 volunteers. People assembled in a place and they received the relief materials. 5 kilos of rice, 1 kilo of sugar, a water bottle, 1 kilo of dhal, match box and 1 kilo of milk powder was given in a kit. Each family was given a kit which consisted of these relief materials. 40 families from Karumbakkam, 50 families from Idayankuppam, 27 families from Alathur and 15 families from Karuneelam received the kits from the organization.
Wednesday Dec 30, 2015 (Fact finding study by PG students of Social work)PG students of social work from Madras School of Social work came to RDT for fact finding study. They visited Alathur, Pattikulam, Karuneelam, Idayankuppam, Karumbakkam and Thiruporur. They observed the plights of the Tribal people and said that they would certainly mobilize resources for these affected families.
Tuesday Dec 29, 2015 (Field visit by the team, Financial Support for procuring educational materials)Mr.K.A.S.Melson, Assistant Professor from the department of Outreach, Loyola College Along With Mr.T.K.Elumalai, the managing trustee visited Karumbakkam, Sirukuntram, Idayambakkam and Alathaur. They have understood the immediate needs of the affected families. They also gathered the families in all the villages. People requested that they need to be given good houses for their stay. They also requested the organization to assist them to get pattas for their lands and good houses. The managing trustee promised that he would call for another meeting with likeminded NGOs working for them.
Flood affected families in ChinnammaNagar was in need of educational materials. RDT donated Rs.7000 in view of purchasing note books and uniform and for 30 children. Children who received the materials felt happy and promised that they would continue their study with enthusiasm.
Saturday Dec 26, 2015 (Idayankuppam, Eriethirvayil)47 families have been given 180 kilos of wheat flour in Idayankuppam and 100 families were given 120 kilos of wheat flour in Eriethirvayil. Friday Dec 18, 2015 (Chemmencherrythope)It came to the notice that people still find it difficult to manage their daily living. RDT provided Tiffin items, 2 kilos of rice, one kilo of dhal and one kilo of rava to every affected family.

Monday Dec 14, 2015 (Idayankuppam)The frequent visits to the village manifested that they need tarpaulins. 43 families were given Tarpaulins today, which would protect them from severe cold in the winter.
Sunday Dec 13, 2015 (Idayan Kuppam, Karumbakkam)It was found that they barely need tarpaulin to manage their roof of the house temporarily. Tarpaulin was given to the affected families. They all told that they would use it immediately as it was very urgent to protect them from cold.
People who reside in the house truly feel very cold to live in the houses since their houses were partly damaged. Tarpaulin was given to the affected families. All the 44 families benefited out of the support.
Saturday Dec 12, 2015 (Karumbakkam, PanchamThiruthi, Egattur)44 families who reside here still sleep on the road. They urgently need their houses to be renovated. Some people have started to go for work. They were given saris, towel, cooking wares, 1 kilo of dhal, 5 kilos of rice, school bags.
The managing Trustee along with two social work student volunteers went to this village for the fact finding study. 33 families live in the village. The village road was cut off from the main road. The whole village was muddy. RDT planned to provide relief materials.
People who were affected by flood were given Milk powder, school bag, 5kilos of rice, 2 kilos of dhal, bed sheet and mat. They could fill their stomach with the materials that they received from the organization.
Friday Dec 11, 2015 (Pandithamedu, EriEthirvayil, Alathur, Hiranandhini)There are 105houses in the area. All the affected families were given 25 kilograms of rice, 144 liters of water, biscuit and dresses. They were indeed grateful for the timely help made by the organization.
There are 30 families live in the village. They were rescued and kept in ICDS center. Food packets were given when they were in the camp. They were also given 10 kilograms of rice, 2 kilos of dhal, 35 T-Shirts and vegetables when they came down to their areas. People still say that they are victimized for snakes and poisonous insects.
Affected families were visited today. It came to the notice of the organization that they still find it difficult to manage their life since they did not have any work. They were supported with 2 kilos of rice, 1 kilo of dhal, 1 kilo of rava, biscuits, dresses, notebooks, pencil, sketch pens, brooms and chalk pieces box.
Thursday Dec 10, 2015 (Karumbakkam, Egattur, ChemmencherryThope)There are 44 tribal families living in the village. All are living in the area for 40 years in very old houses which were constructed with mud materials. All the walls in the houses have lost the grip and most of the houses are wide open due to the broken walls. People sleep on the road and they are victimized for snakes and poisonous insects. RDT did a details study of the village and decided to assist them.
150 Migrant construction families are living here. They were generally affected and were not supported by any organization. All the workers were supported with relief materials. They were given dresses, bread for eating, 2 kilos of Dhal, 2 kilos of sugar and 5 kilos of rice.
There are 300 families live in the area. This area also accommodates migrant construction workers. Families who were affected by flood were supported with dresses, bread for eating, 2 kilos of Dhal, 2 kilos of sugar and 5 kilos of rice. This support made them happy and satisfied.
Monday Dec 07, 2015 (IdayanKuppam, Alathur)47 families reside here in the village. Rain water entered into the house today. All the families were rescued today. People were given biscuit, water bottles, milk powder, dresses and sanitary napkins. Candles, match box and woolen clothes were given to the families. Mr.Ananthan, the vice president of the panchayat was present during the distribution.
30 families live in the village near the pond. The pond was overflowing and all the huts were affected. People were asked to stay in ICDS center. All the families were supported with water bottles, biscuit, clothes, sanitary napkins, candles and matchbox. Mr.Mathavan, Mr.Kannan and Mr.John were present for the distribution.

Saturday Nov 21, 2015 (Kazhipattur, VaniyanChavady)RDT in collaboration with CTS Company distributed note books, pen, pencil and biscuit to the children who go to school. All the 25 children who learn in the school were all these educational materials.
Learning materials, dust bins, dust pad and chalk pieces, to the school and pen, pencil and charts to the children were provided. 20 children who learn in the school benefited out of the help. This also became a motivating factor for the children to continue the school.
Wednesday Nov 11, 2015 (ChemmencherryTope)The organization provided food packets to the flood affected families in the area today. Followed by that, they were given dresses, 2 kilos of rice, 1 kilo of Dhal, Biscuit and 1 kilo of Rava since they were not having work in the rainy season.
Saturday Nov 14, 2015 (Ammapettai, Melakottaiyur, Hiranandhini)All the children in the special school, and day care center, Ammapettai were provided bread and biscuit today. All the children were also given educational materials like charts, pen, pencil notebooks slate, eureka kits, A4 sheets, scissors, pencil box, ID Card, long size note book, long scale and dust bin to the school. Mrs.Rajeswari, the school teacher was present during the distribution. The school also received dust pad, soap, soap box, brown sheets, pot, mat and toilet cleaning material. All these materials were timely help for both the school and the children.
There are 50 Children who are below 14 years old in the school. They were visited by the organization today. They were given long size note book, small size notebook, pen, pencil, scale and kit box. Mr.Amiyakumar Jenna was present when they were given all these materials. Children were feeling happy to receive the materials from the organization.
There are 200 families in this area. 75 families were severely affected. They were given food materials. Chalk pieces, brooms, pot notebooks, rice, dhal, and rava were given to the affected families.
Wednesday Nov 11, 2015 (Chemmencherrythope, Egattur, Hiranandhini, VaniyanChavadi, Ammapettai, Kazhipattur, Melakottaiyur, PonniammanKoil, Perumbakkam, Chenganmal, Gandhinagar, Kovilambakkam and Sholinganallur)All these 13 areas were affected by flood and they were not having any work in these days. These people visited in their own areas with the support of volunteers and they were given 3 kilos of rice, 1 kilo of dhal, 1 kilo of sugar, one kilo of rava, dresses, candles and match boxes. This was a great help for the flood affected victims.

As they were affected by flood, they were given food packets. 25 children were given bread and biscuits today. They were also given water bottles since there was no access for safe drinking water.
Friday Nov 06, 2015 (Kovilambakkam)30 migrant construction workers are living here in the area. They were living in temporary houses. They were affected by flood. All the people who live in the area were given food packets, bread, biscuit and water bottles. They were visited neither by any voluntary organization nor by government. Since RDT works with migrant population this service was offered in the crisis situation.

They are migrant construction workers who live in temporary houses and deprived of basic needs. RDT is running special schools for the children of migrant construction workers. All these families were living in lower areas in their living places. During the first spell of rain there was flood and they had to leave their areas. All of them were given food packets and relief materials. They were visited on a daily basis and they were supported.
Tuesday Nov 03, 2015 (Ponniammankoil)400 families are living in this village. Flood affected this village and people were striving without food. All the affected families were given food packets today. They were also given dresses, charts, pen pencil, slate, notebooks and biscuits. The school was given carom board, chess and mat. 25 children benefited of the support.
