This is located in St.Thomas mount block, Chennai district. There are 450 migrant families who have migrated from Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. There are 32 children studying in the special school. They all belong to Class I to Class-V. Children attend classes in two batches from 9.30 A.M to 12.00 P.M and 1.00P.M to 3.30 P.M. Children attend the school half a day because of the curfew announced by the Government. They are very eagerly waiting for the reopening of the school. Parents are also asking for a full day school, since their children are unsafe half a day. Classes are conducted wearing masks and social distancing.
This School was functioning in a rented house from 2006 onwards. Now having seen the need of the hour, the state government has provided a place to conduct the School from 2016 onwards. As it is in the Government order due to Covid-19 Lock down, schools remain closed. Now classes are taken through online mode. Since all the children do not have mobiles, they are brought in to a place and classes are taken. Children are taught computer and other soft skills. Children are also given an opportunity to visit different tourist spots. As the government provides mid-day meal, children are given biscuits every day by RDT. Now children are provided one kilo gram of rice, kilogram of Dal and 10 eggs. All the children are given all kinds of educational materials at free of cost. Children are provided two sets of uniform and 2 sets of color dress every academic year.
Children are engaged through drawing, painting and games. Art and craft classes are also handled and they are encouraged to draw pictures. All the activities carried out make the children learn their subjects fast. Parents of this village interestingly attend the parents meeting.
